had combine sectionals today...was not bad.than practiced how to walk in and out the stage and all the standing up things.nothing much happen today.terence didn't come today.he was 'sick'.kevin came...but for some unknown reason he was not with us the whole prac.
Most people would think SYF and getting a Gold/Gold with Honours is everything to Band. But that's utter rubbish.
Let your passion show through during your performance, exert that last bit of effort into the final lap and most of all.Play for your sec 4s and 5.the person who is sitting beside you on the stage itself,to your bandies.have fun with your fellow band members.(no pan intended)
That's all that matters.
As long as you have done your best, there's nothing left to regret.6 more days and this chapter of SASMB ends.lets make it a good ending.And start a beautiful new chapter

today was pretty good...everything went quite smoothly.had combine sectionals.Mr yeo took us.manage to play the elephant correctly.*claps*.had full band at 5 + by mr Glosz.finally manage to do the fanfare part in merry widow.but figure 7 is not gd enough.He said 13 is too harsh.thats about all that happens today

Hello all! Its been awhile since i posted. The sec 2s should post more and talk about their experience in band. Anyway, i want to take this opportunity to wish all of you best of luck for the SYF that's coming around the corner. Just be calm and have fun. Eugene, show confidence in your playing and the whole section will 'feel' that confidence. Everyone's gonna freak out if the SL freaks out. There's still time to improve but not much, so work extra hard these fews days! ALL OUT!!!!! Last lap as they always say. Best to joke around before the judging, but dont joke around till you lose focus. As for Terence, its your first SYF, learn from this experience. Appreciate your enthusiasm. Don't worry about your tone, if you practice consistently, it will eventually sound better. Its not good to rush. A nice cookie is always baked slowly with tender loving care. Yeah, tats about all i have to say to you all.....BUT ONE MORE THING! Please come to SAJC concert at the Singapore Conference Hall on the 28th of April 7:30. Ticket prices are at $12. yay.i finally manage to get this this going.well,the malaysia trip didn't really go that well.scolding 24/7.than that stupid hao ming press all the butttons in the lift.than the whole SASMB was ban frm using the lift.and we are staying in the 12 and 13 floor.lol.well,everything turned out well.19 more days to syf people.night safari is still not 'there'.especially the elephant call.today prac was somewhat ok.The Merry Widow was fine.not much problem.but the Night Safari,full of problem.well...work hard guys.only 19 days left.

prac today was kind of short.8 to 10 only.10 to 12 is drill test.we did Merry Widow for 1 and a half hours.than we ran through night safari.after that Mr Glosz said 1 thing.The only section that knows what they are doing is the Cornet Section.lol.Cornet Section rocks man.

Hello everyone, its 2007 and no doubt many things are going to happen. Just to say, our blog is now 6 months old! Hooray. Its sad to say that trombone's blog is no more because no one wants to maintain it anymore. Dont let it happen to our blog. Cornets, please work very hard this year, not only just for SYF but in your studies as well. This is going to be a very busy year for the sec 4s as their Os is coming very near. You dont have much time, so study whever you have the time and dont waste time in classes by sleeping etc. The rest please give cooperation to the seniors so they wont get so stressed out. Hey, finally some CURRENT member posted something. Hehe, adam is up to his stupid acts again. If he gets over any of your heads, tell me. Why does he keep picking on sasi???? You know sasi has a mental illness. He cuts his wrist when he is stressed. Careful. One day he stressed he wont cut his hand he cut yours!!! O ya, leave your name after u posted!!! If not how the hell would we know who posted. AND! about merry widow, take it slow. Dun rush things. You may get frustrated when you listen that it sounds terrible during the tongueing movements. But press on. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT. Do more tongueing exercises. Remember to use lots of air when doing this. Imagine your air moving through your instrument like a water hose of a fire truck. Get the picture??? LOTS OF AIR. From here, once u move lots of air in single tongueing, double tongueing would be chicken feet. Practice the tongueing exercise in eugene's ARBAN book. Its the Bible for Cornet/Trumpet playing. Work hard for SYF ok?? Make Glosz proud. Whatever he do during these month that may make you people feel disheartened, angry or sad, dont let it get involved with your work and your life. It would make matters worse. Rest well and keep a positive mind.

This article is to solve embouchure problems. What bean said could be his answer or what he do. But my method is different. Firz, whenever i step into the bandroom and take out my instrument, do a thorough warm up. Improve your comfort range by playing lower chromatics and your concert Bb scale alot of times. Play it slow and long. Play loud oso. Then next, the lower chromatic fingering, use it:-Play every note that can be played using open. Then play every note that can be played using piston 2, then play every note that can be played using piston 1 etc. This will get u familiar with the harmonics of the instrument and you will mispitch less. It will improve your high register in a way. After you have been doing this consistently for a month every 30 mins of your day, you can start blasting every note from lower chromatic to chromatic scales. Blast until u are tired! Tired just continue. This will strenghten your muscles around your mouth. Do pencil exercises as well. With in two month you will have an embouchure that has stamina. From there, use this embouchure and develope a nice cornet tone. Warm and mellow. This is what I have done..... May work or may not work for u.....

Good morning to all sec 4s. It felt like it was only yesterday when we joined the band. Its a wonder why I joined band. Probably the love of music and the desire to play the trumpet. Those great memories will for ever be remembered in my heart. I woke up this morning to suddenly think of those good old days in sec 1 in the old school: Sectionals in classrooms, dennis storming out of the room and han yong in our section for 2 years. Then in sec 2 when we moved to the basement bandroom: sharil putting a hole in hayden's head, hayden being a mummy's boy so scared of being dirty. And finally receiving the laquered courtois at the last band camp for the year. Our sec 4s left after that. Then came sec 3: SYF and Presentation Night and of course the occasional quotes from our section people like its a fluk and stuff like that. Saranian was in our section back then. Wonder how it would feel like having him in our section now. :) Then finally came our year to lead. Adam doing his thing and eugene acting accordingly... (u know wad i mean) then came 7th july and recently 6th august, THE MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE IN MY BAND LIFE. Now, we finally step down, after 4 years of music making. Hope it wont end here. Some might continue in the JC while some continue as an alumni or join outside bands or orchestras. Wherever we go, keep the flaming quaver ever burning. As for the sec 2s, your time will come soon where you will have your own juniors and have your long awaited laquer cornet, a symbol of seniority and respect! I'm gonna miss you all..... long live the cornets!-------- shafiq

OMG! Attention all cornetists!!! The section outing is cancelled due to unforseen circumstances. Glosz has invited the sec 4s to his house for a barbeque. Therefore hayden, chuon yan, sharil and myself cannot go. It would be good if we postponed the outing to a later date. We so deeply apologize for this unforseen event. But look on the bright side, at least got more time to save up for money :)

Anyway, the possible dates might be the 12th or 13th of august. Any later, the seniors will no longer have any more time. But if u all want to continue with the outing, pls do so.......

Attention all sa cornetist, this is the most up-to-date announcement on the outing. Confirm, tat the section outing will either happen on the 10th of august(a holiday, unless god has anything to say about it!). hey...Eugene here...SL for the SASMB Cornet Section ver 0.7...haha..today was the day...the days for the concert(The Saints Celebrate)....at vch...screwed up victory....lost the score...how smart of me...anyway...my solo turn out pretty well...so was Bean's and Shafiq's solo at mononoke...adam's solo was nice too...today's concert is the last for the sec 4s...getting ready for 'O's liao....how time flies...well...fairwell to all the sec 4s....we'll miss u...do come back to see us when u r free...
