This article is to solve embouchure problems. What bean said could be his answer or what he do. But my method is different. Firz, whenever i step into the bandroom and take out my instrument, do a thorough warm up. Improve your comfort range by playing lower chromatics and your concert Bb scale alot of times. Play it slow and long. Play loud oso. Then next, the lower chromatic fingering, use it:-Play every note that can be played using open. Then play every note that can be played using piston 2, then play every note that can be played using piston 1 etc. This will get u familiar with the harmonics of the instrument and you will mispitch less. It will improve your high register in a way. After you have been doing this consistently for a month every 30 mins of your day, you can start blasting every note from lower chromatic to chromatic scales. Blast until u are tired! Tired just continue. This will strenghten your muscles around your mouth. Do pencil exercises as well. With in two month you will have an embouchure that has stamina. From there, use this embouchure and develope a nice cornet tone. Warm and mellow. This is what I have done..... May work or may not work for u.....

ok...my batch has left and here is where a new chapter of sasmb begins.firstly i would like to thank ALL of you guys for making SASMB such a great experience for me.It seems as if it was not long ago sharil nearly killed haydan during band camp..Haydan being such a goody clean kid.Killing u for stepping on his black shoes..hahaha crapping ard so much during band practice.Getting screwed by the damn field 10 times. That kinda of thing.I'm sure my batch mates would agree.hahaahaa..Then came the day i had my own juniors.starting off with a section of..10 ppl?down to 4 now.I'm glad to say u guys are the surviving ones.(: 2 years with the 4 of you have really taught me so much. From feeling so pek chek when taking u guys for sectionals to feeling so proud of you guys when seeing u all perform at JBF.Being able to say.those are my juniors. You'll feel what i feel when your time comes.Sasi pissing the hell out of me when he couldnt read notes hahahahaa marah pissing me off with his unstability in band..lOl.I'm glad u madee the right choice.Job crapping ard with his lame and stupid, sometimes no link jokes.loli'll miss that.Kevin being so serious coming to complain to me:eh sir..Job dont want to listen.LOLHAHHAHAHHA..I'll miss that.On the seventh of july this year was our band concert.Dissapointed i might have been,I managed to carry on with life. And glad to say,I managed to perform for august and ended my band life in SASMB on a good note.Playing with u guys that day was really a great pleasure. It was an emotional time for me.4 years of joy, fun, pain, laughter ending right after the last note of sacred suite.Playing the last few lines of sacred suite.I told myself. This is it.And it was a feeling i will always remember and never forget. It was a sense of joy yet sadness. But definitely on a happy side.I really hope1,2 or 3 years down the road when u guys finally play the last piece of your life in SASMB.I sincerely hope you guys would feel the same way i did.Knowing you have made a differencee in this band.Playing for the last time with your own juniors.Your children you have raised.Always remember...Make A Difference.Be it in someones life.Be it in the band.Make a difference.I'm glad to say that you guys have certainly made a difference in my life.To my sec3s,this is where your batch takes over from mine. The future of the band in now in your hands. It is all up to you whether you want to make the next chapter of SASMB a good or a not so good one.It is all in your hands.Eugene,I hope you will continue working hard and bring the section to greater heights. Not only musically but in attitude as well.Music is not about feeling the dissapointment of playing 10 wrong notes in a piece. It is the joy of hearing just one chord that would make you just smile.(: I hope that when i come back next time as a SAJCCB member,I would see the section not only playing music well, but enjoying what they are doing.Having fun with the music.Adam,I hope that you would learn to live life to the fullest.Dont waste your time doing stuff thats not useful la ok...haha and ahem.ok.shall not elaborate on that.hahaha My direct Juniors, when i come back, i hope that i owuld be able to see your own juniors, having fun with them at the same time teaching them to make MUSIC.those would be my grand juniors. To all of u guys, eugene, adam, marah, kevin, job, sasi, terrance, mervyn,Gopi and of course sharil,i hope you would work hard and make the cornet section not only a place of musical excellence but a place for musical pleasure and fun.I'll really miss you guys.I love you all.And once again.THANK YOU for making my stay in SASMB a wonderful, memorable, fun, interesting and enriching one.Keep The Flaming Quaver Burning Brightly Ever.-Your friend and mentor of batch'90,Chuon Yan a.k.a bean

Good morning to all sec 4s. It felt like it was only yesterday when we joined the band. Its a wonder why I joined band. Probably the love of music and the desire to play the trumpet. Those great memories will for ever be remembered in my heart. I woke up this morning to suddenly think of those good old days in sec 1 in the old school: Sectionals in classrooms, dennis storming out of the room and han yong in our section for 2 years. Then in sec 2 when we moved to the basement bandroom: sharil putting a hole in hayden's head, hayden being a mummy's boy so scared of being dirty. And finally receiving the laquered courtois at the last band camp for the year. Our sec 4s left after that. Then came sec 3: SYF and Presentation Night and of course the occasional quotes from our section people like its a fluk and stuff like that. Saranian was in our section back then. Wonder how it would feel like having him in our section now. :) Then finally came our year to lead. Adam doing his thing and eugene acting accordingly... (u know wad i mean) then came 7th july and recently 6th august, THE MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE IN MY BAND LIFE. Now, we finally step down, after 4 years of music making. Hope it wont end here. Some might continue in the JC while some continue as an alumni or join outside bands or orchestras. Wherever we go, keep the flaming quaver ever burning. As for the sec 2s, your time will come soon where you will have your own juniors and have your long awaited laquer cornet, a symbol of seniority and respect! I'm gonna miss you all..... long live the cornets!-------- shafiq
